UTG Tool Library
The Tool Library concept has been around for a long time but there aren't that many of them in Australia - we've visited the Brunswick (VIC) Tool Library and we know of Tool Library's in Brisbane (QLD), Albury Wodonga (NSW) and the Blue Mountains (NSW) which are getting underway.
Basically how it works is under a membership model where you pay an annual membership fee and this entitles you to borrow any tool we have in the library for a set period of time (usually a few days, over a weekend, etc). You bring it back and pick up something else. We organise maintenance of the tools but would expect you to take care of them while using.
Existing Tool Libraries organise maintenance days where local experts and interested learners can help maintain and service the tools. They also run "How To" workshops to help members learn more about the tools or how to use them.
We're at an early stage of executing the concept but we've got a pretty good plan!
Join our Facebook page where you can join to get more information and be part of the ongoing conversation - see the link opposite
Support our GoFundMe campaign to help set up the Tool Library - see the link opposite
We're also approaching other funding sources - let us know if you have some ideas on this!
We've identified a location for the Library (just seeking approvals!)
We're looking to team up with other local groups - maybe an Upwey Men's Shed (!?!)
We'll be approaching tool suppliers / retailers to talk about donations / subsidised purchase of high quality tools - let us know if you have some contacts.
