UTG Tool Library

The 'tool library' concept has existed for some time, but there aren't many of them in Australia – we've visited the Brunswick Tool Library (Vic), and we know of plans to get tool libraries in Brisbane (QLD), Albury Wodonga (NSW) and the Blue Mountains (NSW) underway.

How does it work?

Join as a member and pay the annual membership fee, and you're able to borrow any tool in the library for a set period of time (usually a few days, over a weekend, etc.) You can then return it, and borrow something else. We organise maintenance of the tools but expect you to take care of them while using.

Existing tool libraries organise maintenance days where local experts and interested learners can help maintain and service the tools. They also run 'How To' workshops to help members learn more about the tools or how to use them.

The UTG Tool Library is coming soon – here's the latest:

  • Support our GoFundMe campaign to help set up the Tool Library - see the link opposite

  • We're also approaching other funding sources – let us know if you have some ideas on this!

  • We've identified a location for the Library (just seeking approvals!)

  • We're looking to team up with other local groups – maybe an Upwey Men's Shed

  • We'll be approaching tool suppliers/retailers to talk about donations/subsidised purchase of high quality tools – let us know if you have some contacts.

UTG, in partnership with the Upwey Community Sharing of Things Library, are working on an exciting new project, the
